Tooth Gems & What You Need to Know

Pre - Appointment Instructions For Tooth Gem Application

Meal Recommendations

  • Please eat a substantial meal at least one hour prior to your appointment.  We advise against eating for approximately two hours after the tooth gem application.

Oral Hygiene

  • Ensure that your teeth are thoroughly brushed before arriving for your appointment.
  • After Brushing Please Avoid: Eating, drinking (including water), smoking, or chewing gum prior to your appointment.
  • Prior to your appointment, please ensure the tooth, or teeth, receiving gems are in healthy condition - free of cracks, cavities, plaque, build-up, infections, abscesses, or any or dental concerns.
  • Additionally, the area must be free of any bonding or composite material from previous gem applications.
  • If any of the above conditions are present at the time of your appointment, it will be necessary to reschedule until proper dental treatment has been fulfilled.

Teeth Whitening Notice

  • If you plan to whiten your teeth before receiving tooth gems, please schedule the whitening at least two weeks before your tooth gem appointment. Applying gems too soon after whitening can negatively affect their retention/

Requirements & Appointment Policy

We ask that you do not arrive any earlier than 5 minutes before your appointment time. Arriving more than 5 minutes early interrupts our time with our previous client. If you are a walk-in, we ask that you wait patiently as we finish up with our appointments.

Walk-ins Are Welcome, Appointments Are Preferred.

Age & Required Documents

  • Clients must be at least 18 years of age or older and have a valid government ID card. This ID MUST have a photo as well as your date of birth. Such as a driver’s license, state ID card, or passport. This ID cannot be expired. It is illegal to copy or photograph military ID, so we cannot accept military IDs for our paperwork.

Payment

  • To book an appointment you will be required to put down your card information and you will be charged the full amount of the service fee. This acts as a deposit and holds your place. This deposit also compensates our Tooth Gem Tech for their time in the event of a no-show or cancellation.

Rescheduling & Cancellations

  • Please notify the studio 1 day (24 hours), in advance if you need to cancel your appointment. Notice after 24 hours results in the forfeiture of your deposit.

  • In the event that you are at the appointment and you are either unable to, or decide to not go through with the service, we are able to reschedule to another day at no extra cost. However, cancellations the day of the appointment results in the forfeiture of your deposit. This applies to appointments made the same day as the appointment time as well, so please make sure you will be able to make your appointment on time.

  • Failure to provide adequate notice, or a no-call-no-show, will result in being barred from booking future appointments through our website and will only be accepted as walk-ins moving forward.

Late Arrival

  • Please contact the studio or Stacia directly as soon as possible to notify us of your ETA.
  • There is a 15-minute grace period if there are no appointments after yours.  If there is an appointment directly after yours, we will likely need to reschedule due to the time allotted per appointment. We will do our best to accommodate your next appointment for the same day. Please understand this will not be possible if we are fully booked for the day.

Guests

  • Only one guest is allowed to accompany you. Exceptions will be made if multiple individuals are receiving services during the same visit. All guests entering the room must fill out a Guest Release Form, whether they are receiving a service or not, and must also have valid photo ID present.

We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone who refuses to adhere to these policies, with no refunds offered.

How To Maintain Them

If your tooth gem falls off within one month of its application, we will replace one (1) crystal at no charge. For any additional replacements a new service fee will apply. This policy does not include gold charms. Please Note: free replacements will only be offered if proper aftercare has been followed. We will only correct issues resulting from the application.

Short - Term Aftercare

  • The first 24 hours following your appointment are critical to ensure proper bonding and long-term retention of your tooth gem(s). Please follow the aftercare guidelines carefully to protect both the health of your teeth and the longevity of your gem(s).

For The First 24 Hours

  • Do not eat or drink anything except water for the first 2 hours after your appointment.
  • Avoid smoking or vaping. Smoking can compromise the adhesive, potentially causing the gem(s) to detach.
  • Avoid acidic or carbonated beverages or foods, such as soda, citrus, or vinegar.
  • The "pores" of your enamel are still open for 24-48 hours after application, so avoid dark or artificially colored foods and drinks such as: coffee, red wine, or dark sodas.
  • Avoid alcoholic beverages.
  • Avoid chewy breads, hard breads, bread containing large grains or nuts, chips, popcorn, hard cereals, hard raw fruits or vegetables, dried fruit, pineapple or pineapple juice, tough meats, hard/crunchy cookies, and ice.
  • Do not eat hot drinks or soups.
  • Do not chew gum or eat chewy, sticky candy, or hard candy.
  • Avoid touching, picking at, or playing with the gem(s).
  • Avoid the use of electric toothbrushes, charcoal toothpaste, whitening strips or pastes, or water flossers (waterpiks). The use of these products could weaken the bond.
  • Stick to soft foods to minimize pressure on the gem(s).

By following these guidelines you'll help ensure your tooth gem(s) stay secure and your smile stays bright!

Long-Term Aftercare

To ensure the longevity of your tooth gem(s) long-term, please keep the following care tips in mind:

  • Be mindful while eating - biting into hard or crunchy foods such as ice, chips, or apples may lead to gem displacement or even loss.
  • Maintain excellent oral hygiene by flossing and brushing daily.
  • Avoid chewing gum or consuming sticky candy and foods on or near the gemmed teeth, as they can loosen the bond.
  • Refrain from using charcoal toothpastes, as it is abrasive and may cause premature gem loss. The abrasiveness of charcoal damages the enamel of your teeth.
  • The use of electric toothbrushes, whitening strips or pastes, or water flossers (waterpiks) is not recommended. The use of these products could weaken the bond.
  • Do not play with or pick at the gem(s).
  • While smoking is generally safe after the first 24 hours, vaping can still affect gem retention. The main ingredient in vape juice, propylene glycol, is safe to injest but can damage your enamel over time.
  • Avoid brushing too vigorously.

Consistent, gentle care will help your gem(s) stay secure and maintain a healthy, beautiful smile!

Tooth Enamel

  • For people with little or no enamel, tooth gems will not last. Unfortunately, some people naturally have weak enamel. Tooth gems are not always suitable for everyone. Our tooth gem tech will apply gems if possible, but in some cases, it may take trial and error to determine if your teeth can support them.
  • Inadequate oral hygiene and / or lack of regular dental cleanings, natural oral acidity, and dietary choices can negatively affect retention.

If your gems fall off quickly despite proper aftercare, it may be due to your enamel.

Frequently Asked Questions

When applied correctly and maintained properly, tooth gems do not cause any damage to your teeth, gums, or overall oral health.

The process typically takes 15 - 20 minutes, including paperwork. More intricate designs may require additional time.

Tooth gems can last anywhere from one month to over two years. The duration depends on individual factors such as oral health and lifestyle habits, so results will vary person to person.

Not at all. The application method is similar to how orthodontists attach braces brackets - there is no drilling or pain involved. The gems are secured using 100% safe orthodontic adhesive.

This depends on the specific case. Veneers generally do not bond well with the adhesive used. For braces and wire retainers we can accommodate your needs. For plastic retainers, new ones may need to be made with extra space to accommodate for the gems. Existing retainers may be able to be modified to fit.

All of the crystals and charms used are 100% lead-free and are safe if accidentally swallowed. While it may be surprising, you can rest assured it will cause no health risk.

Absolutely! Maintaining excellent oral hygiene is essential to maintain tooth gems. Continue with your regular dental cleanings and check-ups. Many dentists enjoy seeing tooth gems as a part of your unique smile!

Similar to braces, you may notice the presence of your new gems for the first few days up to a week. After this adjustment period, most people no longer feel them and become accustomed to their presence.

Yes, tooth gems are semi-permanent and can be removed. Most gems will naturally come off over time, but removal should always be performed by a licensed dentist or dental hygienist. This can often be done during your routine dental cleanings.

No. Our technician is not a dentist nor is she affiliated with the dental board. Stacia is a certified tooth gem technician specializing in the safe application of dental jewelry. For dental treatments please visit your primary dentist.
