Required - No Exceptions
- You MUST have a birth certificate for the minor being pierced available at the appointment. This is not optional.
- Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. This parent or guardian must have a valid government issued photo ID present at the appointment. This ID cannot be expired. It is illegal to copy or photograph military ID, so we cannot accept military IDs for our paperwork.
- If the adult accompanying the minor is not on the birth certificate, they will need everything previously mentioned (photo ID for the Adult, and birth certificate for the Minor), as well as additional required paperwork, please read the following:
- The state requires that we have proof the adult is allowed to legally sign for and consent for the minor being pierced. This prevents any random adult, or family member such as an aunt or sibling, from being able to bring in your child to get pierced without your consent. These precautions are put in place for the safety of both the client and the studio.
We currently do not pierce minors under the age of 5.
- For Minors ages 5 - 12 we offer earlobe piercings.
- For Minors ages 13 - 17 we offer earlobe piercings, outer cartilage piercings, and limited facial and body piercings.
If you do not see the piercing your child is wishing to get pierced listed, please call the shop or set up a free consultation appointment to speak to our piercer in person
Please call the studio at (530) 282 -5551 or email us at ask.gildedneedle@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Appointments are required for minors, we currently do not accept walk-ins for minors
Benefits of Booking an Appointment:
We encourage clients to NOT book their appointment (or walk-in) on a day when they have other time-sensitive appointments afterwards.
While we do strive to complete services within the allotted time slots, we do also allow grace for clients who may need extra time. A piercing can be a nerve-wracking and painful thing to experience, and sometimes our bodies react in a way we aren't expecting. If a client is feeling nauseous, dizzy, light-headed, or faint, we take as much time as the client needs to recover. We do what we can to ensure everyone leaves our studio safely.
This doesn't happen often, but we appreciate your grace and understanding when things take longer than expected.
Depending on the circumstance the piercer may allow a parent to film their child being pierced, however, this is not guaranteed. This video is not to be posted online and is for family use only. Adults are allowed to take photographs with Piercer permission, be sure to ask the piercer prior to taking photos and especially videos.
Anyone under the age of 18 is not permitted to film or take photos inside of the studio.
In our studio we carry, implant-grade ASTMF136 titanium, ASTMF138 steel, niobium, and 18k nickel free gold. We only offer the highest quality jewelry in the industry, which has been proven to be essential for gently and easily healing piercings. Most of our jewelry is made right here in California, and we are proud to carry only US based companies.
Once a piece of jewelry has been purchased and has left the studio, we cannot guarantee that it has not been worn. Due to this we cannot accept returns or refunds for jewelry.
We do not offer refunds on services; however, we can potentially reschedule to another time depending on the circumstances.
The short answer is no. A fresh piercing is an open wound and therefore susceptible to infection. Inserting previously worn jewelry into a new piercing will increase that risk.
We are unable to use client's jewelry for piercing services, due to the fact that it cannot be verified with certainty that it is the proper material to heal well in a piercing, and also that the piece has never been worn before.
When body jewelry is worn, it becomes coated in what's called "biofilm". Biofilm in this context is a layer of various microbes that grow on and stick to surfaces within the body, such as medical devices, your teeth, and the body jewelry in your piercings.
These biofilms provide a protective barrier for bacteria, making them resistant to antibiotics - increasing the risk of infection in a new wound, and are extremely difficult to remove. Scrubbing is common practice for surgical tools to assist in the removal of biofilms, however, scrubbing jewelry compromises the wearable surface of body jewelry and is not recommended.
We are a fully disposable studio, this means that all of our jewelry, needles, tools, supplies, etc. are all single-use and are thrown away immediately after use. Our machines used to sterilize our jewelry and supplies are reserved for fresh, unused materials only. Sterilizing previously worn jewelry would contaminate the machine and anything sterilized with it in the future.
At no point in our studio will a tool or jewelry that has been used on one client, be used on another. This completely eliminates the possibility of cross contamination via previously used tools or supplies.
For jewelry changes, on fully well healed piercings only, we are able to change your jewelry out to a piece that you have previously purchased in our studio. You must have some form of receipt.
A minimum of 6 months, but more likely 8 - 12 months depending on the piercing and the methods used to care for it.
It is common for piercings to no longer hurt or weep after a few weeks, but this does not mean it is healed. It is not possible for the human body to completely heal a piercing, no matter the placement, in just a few weeks.
The exact answer to this question is going vary greatly from person to person, as it depends on which piercing, the style of jewelry, whether it's being snagged or damaged in any way, etc.
When you are initially pierced, a long post will be placed inside the piercing channel to accommodate the swelling that will occur as a reaction to your fresh wound. Once the swelling goes down it’s important to return to your piercer for a shorter post/barbell, this is called "downsizing".
If a piercing isn’t downsized to a form fitted barbell soon enough, it will get caught and snagged; continuously irritating the piercing channel, causing damage to the healing channel which results in irritation bumps and even potentially migration and rejection. This greatly prolongs the amount of time it will take for your piercing to heal, and for some it prevents their piercing from ever healing. It is so important that you return to the studio to have your jewelry properly sized.
Even after it's healed - never leave your jewelry out for extended periods of time. Everyone's body is different, and it could begin to close more quickly than you'd expect.
Any materials touching your piercing should always be clean.
For ear or facial piercings, change your pillowcase frequently. Make sure that your ear buds and headphones are routinely wiped down with isopropyl alcohol before use and+ check to make sure your ear buds or headphones aren't putting pressure on your piercing. For body piercings, wear clean clothing against it, and change your bedding frequently. Drinking ice water helps to alleviate swelling with oral piercings.
Do not twist, pick at, or over clean for your piercing.
Excessive redness, heat, elevated body temperature, red streaks, and foul-smelling discharge can be signs of an infection.
Call your physician and notify your piercer.
Please speak to our piercers for more information.
Submerging your healing piercing (within the first 6+ months) greatly increases your risk of infection.
For piercings on the ears or face we recommend not going into any body of water higher than your waist.
For piercings below the neck, we recommend not going into any body of water higher than your knees.
At any point during the healing period, you can get an infection from bacteria residing in the water, even in chlorinated pools or hot tubs.
Chlorine needs time to kill bacteria, and it does not kill every bacterium that can cause infection. Swimming in the ocean is heavily advised against; the salt water in the ocean is not sterile, nor is it the correct level of salt content to gently heal a piercing - not to mention the waves can make it difficult to keep your piercing out of the water. Think of how many animals live in and defecate in the water. Natural bodies of water are especially full of bacteria who would love to make your fresh piercing their new home.
Traveling is hard on your entire body and immune system. When flying, the pressurization on the area can lead to swelling issues, and airports are teaming with bacteria. You'll be exposed to different climates, elevations, water, and bacteria that your body isn't used to.
Your best bet would be to wait until you're home. And show us all your cool traveling pics!
We do not offer all piercings to minors. A piercing is a huge responsibility, and not all kiddos are up for the level of stress and discomfort that can come with healing an advanced piercing, such as an industrial piercing or high nostril piercings for example. Some piercings are quite painful to receive, and we do not want a little one who may not understand what they're signing up for to go through that.
If your child wants a piercing that you do not see listed for minors, please come into the studio for a consultation so we can discuss in person what to expect, and whether your child is actually ready for that or not.
For minors their bodies are still growing, and often times they don't have the anatomy for the piercing they're wanting. This happens most commonly with navel (belly button) piercings. It is required that you bring your child in for an anatomy check prior to booking an appointment for this piercing.
We do not offer "venom" tongue piercings, surface tongue piercings, smiley piercings, tongue web piercings, or anything we feel may be unsafe for your anatomy.
